When I did company law at university I knew it was the area I wanted to work in. That’s a little unusual as most lawyers shy away from it. I began my law degree thinking I would do criminal law or employment law. Boring! Over the last 25 years I’ve learnt an awful lot about company law. You can only gain that expertise by being interested in the subject and working away at it. If you go to one of the larger firms in Hamilton they’ll have you believe that one of their staff lawyers with say 2 or 3 years post-qualification experience is an ‘expert’. Really? Hello?!
