Charities and not-for-profit organisations

At Atticus Legal we are proud of our continuing links over the years to various charities. Our contribution has mostly been our time, as a trustee serving on charitable trust boards, including Life Unlimited Charitable Trust, Balloons over Waikato Charitable Trust and the Hamilton Household Budgeting Advisory Trust.

We know charities and the not-for-profit sector inside out – both as lawyers, who have set up numerous charities and provided ongoing legal advice, and as trustees participating at the coal face.

Taking care to draw up an appropriate charitable trust deed (in particular, carefully defining its charitable objects) can save a lot of time and money down the track. It will help ensure your charity is not removed from the Charities Register and lose its tax exempt status. This requires specialist legal knowledge that many law firms don’t have.
